Oliver's Namesake

This week Gigi, Oliver and I went to Salisbury, NC so Oliver could meet some relatives. Most especially he was able to meet my great grandmother, Oliver's great-great grandmother, Pauline Lefler, whose husband was Oliver West Lefler, and who our Oliver is named after.

Some special tidbits about the Oliver Wests:

When my great grandfather was born, his mother died in childbirth, and the doctor's name was Oliver West, and so, the name was given to the new baby. He lived with that doctor for the first several weeks of his life and then went back to his daddy, who raised him.

When our Oliver was born, he was presented with a shadow box of some special things including his great great grandfather's key chain from the years that he worked for Southern Railroad.

Our Oliver was also presented with an small, old wooden rocking chair that was made in 1912 for my great grandfather when he was a boy.

Also, just for fun....Pauline and Oliver shared the same birthday, so when he was still living and their birthday came around, they would decorate the cake, "Happy Birthday, Oli and Pauli!"
